Reflections from the Art Studio

Creating from stillness (and a week of firsts)

June 23, 2025

Creating from stillness (and a week of firsts)
Creating from stillness
(and a week of firsts)

I've had a very positive week which I'm delighted to share with you. From stillness, I've created a brand new new series which came not from pushing, but from pausing. I gave myself permission to slow down, to release expectation and softened into the moment.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure it would happen. I’d hoped to have a new collection ready in time for exhibition season but my recent shift in my approach, meant a new way of working—slower, more mindful, more attuned. Trusting the process isn’t easy when the world around you values output and momentum but I knew I had to approach this differently. I gave myself permission to set the ambitious to-do list aside and just show up. Gently. Quietly. With soul.

At times, I thought the paintings weren’t working. A few were nearly discarded. But instead of panicking, I released expectation. I reminded myself they were already heading for the “no” pile, so there was nothing to lose—and that’s when things started to flow. I let go of the rules, tapped into memories full of warmth and light and let my brush lead the way.

And from that space, these works arrived like whispers on the breeze—gentle, glowing and full of light.

I painted what I loved, for me, for you. The result is a soft, feminine collection that feels incredibly peaceful, full of layered colour and quiet movement. Some pieces are light and airy; others carry more depth and texture. But they all share something essential: a gentle energy of restoration, balance and grace.

Tranquillity: A New Collection
Inspired by the gentle hues of hydrangeas in bloom, this series blends soothing lilacs, buttercup yellows, citrus greens and clarifying blues. These colours hold healing qualities, selected for their calm energy and luminous presence. I allowed them to blend freely on the canvas—unforced, intuitive, and alive.

An Invitation to Pause
These works are more than paintings—they’re invitations to slow down. To breathe. To reflect. They’re created from stillness and intended to hold space for it in your home.

If you’re looking to bring a sense of calm to your space or a soulful connection to your walls, I’d love for you to experience this collection in person.

A Week of Firsts
This week has been a celebration of small, meaningful wins. Not only did the collection come together with ease, I also stretched and assembled my own canvases (a first!), photographed pieces for professional giclée prints and even had my paintings printed onto eco textiles before sewing them into soft cushions, eye masks and cosmetic bags. I designed my thankyou notes, stickers, business cards and embossing stamp for personalising certificates of authenticity.

And the biggest first of all: I’m having my first solo exhibition since transitioning from fashion design to painting full-time. It feels like a full-circle moment—a chance to celebrate the creativity I’ve always carried, now expressed with a quieter, deeper rhythm.
