Some art supplies will be available for you to try or use however I will send a recommended Materials List out prior to the course commencing. How much you spend on supplies will be entirely up to you and doesn't have to be costly. |

Charlotte has practiced and studied art for over 20 years. During this time she has successfully ran a fashion label and now an art practice with many years teaching dinghy sailing as a Racing Coach. Tailoring the course content to individual students and their preferred learning style is her specialty. She has a supportive, nurturing manner with enthusiasm, smile and knowledge to match. There is no right or wrong and I will be there to teach you various approaches for laying down your thoughts, memories, impressions and emotions with paint and ephemera for a multilayered look. And if that sounds too personal or intrusive, fear not as it's entirely up to you how you interpret the lessons and apply it in your class for self expression or visual experimentation.
No prior art experience or 'artistic talent' necessary.
Painting is a form of escapism and mindfulness for me which offers precious quiet time to pause and reflect. My approach is slow, immersive and considered, each stroke mindful and intuitive. The paintings dreamy and calming, conveying a deep sense of tranquillity. I often start with deep fluid pools of colour and written words which I then respond to by adding creamy, soothing layers of paint, softly blended areas, sweeping arches, effervescent drops, etched script and some highlights of glimmering gold leaf or fine glitter. The power of healing is in the process and the resulting paintings express a sense of peace and joy.
My courses are designed to convey some of the ways I approach my painting and give you the tools to develop your own unique techniques & style by tapping into your own intuition. Gentle guidance will be offered along with prompts, exercises and tailored instruction to suit your skill level or style of learning.
Healing through painting & mindfulness Art is healing because it forces you to forge a connection between your mind and your body. Unlike exercise, which works your body, or meditation, which clears your mind, art-making accesses both mind and body to promote healing.
It can help people deal with strong emotions, manage pain, increase self-awareness and self-worth and decrease stress and anxiety.
I personally started painting again after a career in fashion to overcome physical pain from a long standing injury which no other medical or holistic treatment could help me overcome. Painting allows my mind to quieten and wander whilst I immerse myself in the single focus of painting intuitively, from the soul. The whole tactile experience offers my mind escape from the physical pain I suffer by creating a sort of circuit breaker on the pain signals within my body. As a result, I lead a relatively pain free existence which I can more easily manage. If you suffer from physical pain, I encourage you to give painting a try with one of these courses.
