Successful Opening night for Newent Art Gallery

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who braved the wet and windy evening to join us for Bubbles & Browsing at the gallery opening last Thursday. There was such a lovely buzz and it meant so much to hear your kind words — how light and bright the space feels, how much you’re enjoying the mix of artists and that it already feels like a real asset to Newent.

This first exhibition, North Shores, is a little special to me. I’ve curated it around my own new series, creating a coastal backdrop to showcase a small collection of work I truly love including expressive ink figures by Ania Bond celebrating femininity; striking lino-cut estuary birds by Sarah Delahoy; distinctive illustrated ceramics by Jane Clowes; felted landscapes and sculptures by Megan Pugh; richly glazed ceramics by Derek A Lamb; ocean inspired wood & resin pieces by David Kenworthy; nature inspired silk artworks by Angie Keating; playful glass jewellery by Sadie Copus; landscape brooches by Katie Sanderson, upcycled denim keyrings by Béa Sparks and exquisite silver jewellery by Uschi Arens Price.   

 

We welcomed around 50 guests to the opening, and the most wonderful part for me was seeing so many of my exhibiting artists make a sale. As a gallery owner, representing artists and helping their work find a home is at the heart of our partnership and shared success.

Bringing the gallery to life has been a bit of a whirlwind transforming the space in under two weeks into something light, restful and welcoming. We've designed the space to nurture creativity, support artists and bring a sense of tranquility and connection to the community. 

We also made it into the local papers and as a result, we have been drawing visitors from as far afield as Hereford, Ross on Wye, Gloucester, Monmouth, Ledbury and Worcester as well as the local area. It's been an absolute joy to open with such support and I've shared a little about the process here.
