Behind the Scenes of My Dream Gallery Show (and Why You’re Invited)
The last couple of weeks, I’ve been deep in prep mode for my upcoming exhibitions as well as spending time in the studio painting. There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes before I even reach the gallery!
Each artwork needs varnishing, signing, and stringing with D-rings and cord. Paper pieces have been framed and labelled, ready for collectors to take home and hang straight up. I've photographed and edited my favourite paintings so I can offer Giclée prints and printed textiles. I’ve prepared patterns to turn those textiles into thoughtfully designed cosmetic bags, painterly cushions and gifts. Plus I’ve created 10 new greetings card designs—all made with love. Packaging supplies have been ordered and everything is stacking up in storage ready to be transported to the gallery.
If you read my last post, you’ll know a restful yet uplifting new series is emerging too—and I’m hoping it’ll be exhibition-ready in time!
(As for the seascapes? Well that series is on the back burner but I’m fairly confident they’re whispering to me. Read about my struggle with the elusive seascapes here and here)
For years, I’ve dreamed of running a gallery. Back in my fashion days, it was a boutique I longed for—but now? It’s a light-filled space with pastel-framed windows, flower boxes by the door, beautiful ceramics, curated products and soulful abstract paintings hung with breathing room. My vision board is full of ideas.
Which is why I’m so excited for Tranquillity, my solo show at Sixteen Gallery in Cheltenham (June 26–July 2). Named to reflect what visitors often tell me about my work: that it calms them, uplifts them and brings colour in a way that soothes the soul. It may not be quite my dream realised but it's coming very close to it and an experience I'm so looking forward to it!
I can’t wait to welcome you. I’ll be there each day, soaking in the energy of the space and sharing the stories behind each painting. For me, this is more than an exhibition—it’s a moment to share my art with you, to see how it affects and resonates with you in a beautiful calm space which fosters inner peace.
If you’re local, please pop in. The street is full of lovely cafés, galleries, and independent shops. And... it’s my birthday on June 30! So if you’re around, let’s eat cake together.
If you’re further afield, I’ll share photos and videos on social media so you can experience the exhibition from wherever you are. After all, art has a way of travelling straight to the heart—no matter the distance.
